The main causes of erection problems
There are two main causes: physiological and psychological. Some 80 per cent of cases are primarily physiological.
The main physical causes:
- Inadequate blood flow to the penis because of furred-up or damaged arteries. This causes about 40 per cent of impotence cases in men aged over 50.
- Diabetes.
- The side-effect of some prescribed drugs.
- Smoking.
- Excessive drinking.
- Prostate gland surgery.
The main psychological causes:
- Relationship conflicts.
- Stress and anxiety.
- Depression.
If a man has erections during sleep, or wakes up with one, there is a good chance that his ED has psychological causes.
