Ten Food Hygiene Tips For Safer Eating
- follow cooking instructions
- get chilled or frozen food home and in the fridge/freezer quickly
- keep meat on the bottom shelf to avoid it dripping on other food
- avoid frozen food that’s caked in ice - a sign that it’s been too warm at some time
- prepare raw and cooked food separately and wash your hands in between
- wash chopping boards
- chuck out food that’s past its ‘Use By ‘ date (selling food past its ‘Use By’ date is illegal)
- keep eggs in the fridge
- put the contents of a half-used tin in a plastic or crockery container before storing in the fridge
- and finally, the good news: don’t dry-up - rinse and leave washing-up to dry as tea towels can harbour bacteria
