Free online doctor's surgery every Monday

Ever wanted to talk to a doctor online? We know many of you have. That's why the MHF is backing a new scheme which means that every Monday night you'll be able to chat to a health professional anonymously and in confidence without leaving your computer.

doctor and computerFunded by drug company Pfizer, the MAN MOT is also backed by the National Obesity Forum, the Sexual Advice Association, Relate, HEART UK and Diabetes UK. Surgeries will run every Monday between 6pm and 11pm until April 2012.

So log on Monday at manmot.co.uk for your own MOT or 'Monday Opportunity to Talk' - yeah, it's a bit lame but it should help you remember the day. No appointment necessary.

Your MAN MOT questions answered

Why does a drug company have to do this and not the MHF?

We'd love to but we don't have the money.

Pfizer make Viagra. Won't a drug company just push their own drugs?

No. All the advisors involved are health professionals covered by their own professional ethics codes. Think about it. It would be a PR disaster for all involved particularly Pfizer if there was any hint of a lack of independence.

The MHF are right behind this because we know men are less likely than women to visit their GP. This can often mean that men aren’t having their problems diagnosed by a doctor, which could result in serious medical conditions not being detected or treated. If men take this far easier first step of an anonymous, confidential consultation online, it's got to be a good thing.

Are the MHF being paid by Pfizer?

As it says elsewhere on our websites, the MHF receive funding from a number of sources including government grants, private companies and donations from individuals. Pfizer has supported other aspects of our work. The arrangements for this funding have been made in line with the strict ethical policies governing relationships with others of both the MHF and Pfizer. But we're not getting any money for this specific project. We just think it's a good idea.
