How to follow the diet of a gold medallist
The nutrition guide issued to all British olympic athletes is available to buy for just a tenner.
Fuelling Fitness for Sports Performance is the first sports nutrition guide the British Olympic Association has ever produced. It means that you no longer need to rely on that hulk-like figure with the tiny gonads at the gym for advice.
The book explains the nutritional requirements of the body, discusses carbohydrate, protein and fat requirements for both men and women doing various sports and has a useful section on which supplements are useful and which are a waste of money and, more importantly, could be harmful.
The guide is written by Dr Samatha Stear on the basis of the recommendations of last year's International Olympic Committee conference on sports nutrition.
Dr Richard Budgett OBE, a former Olympic gold medallist and now the chief medical officer to the British team in Athens said: 'whether you are an olympic athlete or an everyday sportsperson, the book is designed to help anyone who is serious about their training. Nutrition is integral to perfromance and we hope this book will help fuel the stars of today and tomorrow.'
The book was produced with an educational grant from the Sugar Bureau, the trade association for the UK sugar industry. Make of that what you will.
