Do you have 'man boobs'?

Do you have man boobs — 'moobs'? Or, to use the technical term for men having 'excess tissue' in the chest area, gynaecomastia?

According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, male breast reduction increased by 27% from 2006 to 2007. Having said that, the total number is still pretty small — up from 177 ops in 2006 to 224 in 2007.

But the emails started buzzing around the MHF when we read a report quoting doctors who said that as many as half of men could be effected.

When we know that man boobs appear when the hormones are disrupted, we find ourselves asking what the hell is happening to the male body?

This disruption — having more of the female hormone oestrogen — can happen as a result of being overweight but there are other causes too (such as anabolic steroids or serious diseases of the liver or kidneys).
