Coming soon to a packet near you
Have you seen the latest horror movie? This isn't another slasher flick or a late night home-alone nightmare but a health message.
In the same month as India introduces its ban on smoking in public places, the Department of Health has decided that a picture can say a thousand words. From now on, the public health warnings on cigarette packets are being supplemented with some pretty gruesome images.
There's the open heart surgery pic which ER rejected, the dead body on a slab, the baby in an incubator, some close-up of cancers and, also, male smokers note: a warning about erectile dysfunction as a result of smoking.
The Department say similar images have been very effective in other countries. What do you reckon? Most smokers want to quit. Do you think this will help them?
If you haven't seen them, the BBC has kindly spent your licence fee on putting these images together in a single slide-slow. Lovely. Check it out here.
